We are surrounded by the Me Too Movement and it’s about time we shine a light on some horrifying accounts of women.
What is the Me Too Movement?
Me Too (#MeToo) is a movement against sexual harassment and sexual assault in the workspace. The movement started after the sexual misconduct allegations against Harvey Weinstein by over 70 women.
The phrase Me Too was first used by American activist Tarana Burke but was pushed by American actress Alyssa Milano, on Twitter in October 2017. The Me Too movement was supported by people all over the world and is one of the most popular historical moments.
Me Too Movement in India
The Me Too movement reached the Indian shores in 2017, and its second wave has caught on again recently. It plummeted after actor Tanushree Dutta (in an interview) alleged veteran actor Nana Patekar for groping her while shooting a song for the film Horn Ok Pleassss in 2008.
After that, the can of worms just erupted. Former AIB comedian Utsav Chakraborty was accused by Mahima Kukreja that he had sent her lewd messages. She claims that he even sexted with her. Other members of AIB also have accusations against them too. Next in line was Vikas Bahl, (director, Queen) who sexually harassed a former employee of Phantom Films, which lead to the company’s demise. Other names in this include Arjuna Ranatunga and many more. Seems like this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Of the entire recent stories we have seen on the Me Too movement, there were a few accounts that stood out for us.
