What’s not to like about things that celebrate people—in this case, women. The Atlas of Beauty (one of the most popular photo projects in the world) was started by Bucharest-based photographer Mihaela Noroc in 2013. The project had a simple goal—to celebrates women from all corners of the world and shows that beauty is everywhere, regardless of money, race or social status, and comes in many different sizes and colours and it can teach us to be tolerant too. The interesting thing, however, is the fact that Noroc’s portraits feature women in their native environments, from the Amazon rainforest to markets in India, London city streets and parks in Harlem, and visually demonstrate the juxtaposition between the varied social worlds these women inhabit.
That’s not all, after working tirelessly for four years and visiting more than 50 countries in this time span, The Atlas of Beauty is now a 352-page book consisting of 500 fabulous portraits. And why should you buy this body of work? There is more than one reason to grab a copy, but Noroc’s thoughts on the book (she wrote on her social media page) might hold some ground.
“I still can’t believe this. I can finally hold it in my hands after four years of continuous work. My editor sent me the first copy of The Atlas of Beauty Book and it looks fabulous. Seeing all these 500 photos at such splendid quality and remembering the stories of all these wonderful women is pure happiness.
It would mean the world to me if most of you will hold it in your hands too. Because that would mean that my work is appreciated and I can continue the project. The book is coming out on September 26 but if you know you will be ordering one, please pre-order it today. If we achieve a good number of pre-orders we will determine the future success of the book.
To make your decision easier, I have to tell you that most of the photos from the book have never been seen before and there’s so much more inside it, than on this page. You’ll love it, I’m sure!”
