Just as I was starting to work on this piece, I came across a video by comedian Daniel Fernandes. The podcast is called ‘You started It’. One of the points that he made in the video kind of resonated with me. Fernandes says, “I seriously don’t understand why good people who make millions of us happy all around the world have such short lives, and you have these vile human beings that just keep breathing…”
What Fernandes reflects is true, and I feel that Irrfan and Rishi Kapoor did leave us a little too soon. These artists were at their best phases creatively, and maybe if they were still alive we would have gotten to see the best performance of their lives, but that’s all gone now!
I am really not sure about other things, but Irrfan and Rishi Kapoor spoke their mind, were witty and great actors in their own right. While Kapoor made his start as a doe-eyed lover boy in Bobby, Khan made a small, but well-etched start with Salaam Bombay!. While Kapoor seemed a little ticked about the fact that he was only offered roles of romantic leads and nothing else, Irrfan was frustrated with the half-baked characters he portrayed on the small screens.
“I seriously don’t understand why good people who make millions of us happy all around the world have such short lives, and you have these vile human beings that just keep breathing…”
We might reminisce and laugh about them now, but how else would we have gotten to see memorable characters like Monty (Karz) and Badrinath (Chandrakanta) and many more? Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor’s effortless magic on the silver screen will be missed, but their on-screen legacy will live on for years to come.
With that thought in mind, there are interesting tributes by various artists from India remembering Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor.
